Standard Chartered has been in the Middle East region for more than 87 years and we are deeply committed to the community, our customers, and our people. The first operation in the Middle East started in Bahrain in 1920 and we are currently located in the UAE, Bahrain, Oman, Qatar, Iran, Lebanon, and Jordan with 32 branches and 2714 staff.
Standard Chartered was the first bank to obtain commercial banking license in the Dubai International Financial Centre and we have also obtained a license for the Qatar Financial Centre. We are committed to expanding our business in new territories and markets in this region.
Over the years, Standard Chartered has demonstrated its commitment to making a difference to the community in the Middle East. The Bank became the title sponsor of the Standard Chartered Dubai Marathon in 2005, the fifth marathon for the Group, which was held under the patronage of His Highness, General Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Prime Minister of UAE and Ruler of Dubai. Standard Chartered is also a platinum sponsor of the Abu Dhabi Golf Championships.
